Unreleased Songs from Prince That You Rate a 10?

I have been going through a lot of old playlists and it got me thinking what unreleased Prince songs (at least his version of the song) rated a 10 on a 10 point scale. I have placed those that are still unreleased and those that were only posthumously released.

Highest Rated Songs still unreleased.

I wonder

God Is Alive

Wally

Desire

Open Book

Lust U Always

Highest Rated Songs that have only been released posthumously

Electric Intercourse

Baby You're a Trip

Do Yourself A Favor

Moonbeam Levels

Love Thy Will Be Done

What unreleased and posthumously released songs would you rate a 10?

yes, a lot of these are close to 10 for me as well. I would have definitely put Empty Room on list had it not been released on C-Note. Some of the others I would rate a 9.

Old Friends 4 Sale / All My Dreams

In A Large Room With No Light

High Fashion / Mutiny

Others Here With Us

Nasty Girl (although we've never heard it, I pray it exists)

Come (TBE version)

Modernaire

Dance With The Devil

17 Days (longer)

U Got The Look (longer)

Rebirth of the Flesh - not a stellar song, but in the spectrum of the Camille songs, it's desirable.

Just when U think U've got more than enough, that's when it all up and flies away.

come elektra tuesday (this song is insanely underrated. i can't get enough of it)

large room w/ no light (original)

we can funk 86' (may be my single fave prince recording ever)

witness 4 the prosecution (the stripped down black album sounding post-revolution solo version)

mad

SpookyPurple

All My Dreams

Empty Room

Come Elektra Tuesday

Witness 4 The Prosecution (any version without horns)

Grand Progression

Eye Wonder

Big Tall Wall (love the simplicity of it)

Coco Boys (love the storytelling going on)

Come (TGE version)

We Can Funk '86

Interesting seeing the other choices. Never got the love for Adonis. Or There's Others Here With Us (which just sounds like a noisy attempt to replicate success of Thriller). Honestly, after some of my previously unreleased favs finally got released (Wonderful Ass, Love Thy Will B Done) I don't feel like there are that many "10"- level unreleased songs.

Which album is that?

It wasn't.

But a (terrific imo) re-recording of it did get played on Jazz FM online in the UK in 2009.

Might be one of the few cases where the re-recording of the original version is better than the original.... Controversial, I know,

I think I may prefer the 2009 version as well. Such a shame it doesn't exist in high quality - but at least we have the Montreux recordings.

Although his unreleased songs are nearly always fascinating, most often very good, I don't think I have heard anything yet which made me think that's a 10. Close, but not a 10, and in most cases I think he chose the right songs for the albums released.

However, the best ones for me...

Train - This would of been great on Parade or Sign

Purple Music - Brilliant

Great List.

I'd add the Girl of My Dreams/Can't Stop/We can Funk three song connected jam. (I think Data Bank is in there somewhere too)

and no such list is complete without the original "Old Friends for Sale" not that trash they released.

Thank you Emesem,

I agree that they shouldn't release We Can Funk without Girl of My Dreams / Can't Stop in the sequence. Data Bank was never included in the 3 track jam but was recorded over the same 2 day session that produced the other 3 tracks.

I nearly included 'Old Friends For Sale' but for me it's about a 9/10. It didn't quite make my shortlist but I'd be so pleased to see it released.

I like the '09 version, but in my opinion the '86 version is far better. I prefer the horns, Wendy and Lisa’s vocals, the tempo. One thing I will give the ‘09 version is that the lyrics are clearer, but that may just be because of the sound quality of the ‘86 bootleg rather than the performance itself. Until it gets an official release I can’t be sure of that one. Still, it would be nice to have both in best possible quality.

So many great ones already listed. A couple that are favorites for me:

Computer Blue, Hallway Speech version (if a posthumously released version counts)

Deliverance EP

And I second the earlier votes for I Wonder and Purple Music.
